LA Reference together with Redalyc-AmeliCA, CLASO and Latindex signed a declaration of support and recognition to UNESCO for the Recommendation on Open Science, which was approved by 193 countries in November 2021.

The supporting statement reads: “Open Science coincides with the universal values of knowledge, the revaluation of local scientific production and the inclusion of different actors in the process of scientific production; values of a region where open access to knowledge has been a tradition and norm, even before it was written in capital letters in the vocabulary of the world of publications. This circumstance reflects the fact that in Latin America and the Caribbean, knowledge has historically been conceptualized as a public good.”

Additionally, it reflects on the need to work together to generate indicators that reflect production in magazines, books and repositories, among other aspects.
