About the project:

This collaborative initiative between LA Reference and Lyrasis aims to strengthen the capacity and usability of DSpace repositories in Latin America and Spain. The project focuses on improving and translating existing documentation, providing training and direct technical support, contributing to software development, and fostering community engagement at regional and global levels.

We are looking for a motivated and experienced full-time Project Coordinator to lead and manage this initiative, who will have a team dedicated to each aspect of the project. The ideal candidate will have project management experience, knowledge of open source software management, and a strong commitment to open science and access to knowledge.

Main responsibilities:

  • Lead the planning, execution and monitoring of the project, guaranteeing compliance with objectives and deadlines.
  • Supervise the creation and translation of technical documentation, coordinating with collaborators and ensuring the quality of materials.
  • Manage the creation of training programs for repository managers and technical staff.
  • Collaborate with the technical team in planning software improvements and contributions to the DSpace code base.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration between regional stakeholders, LA Reference nodes and the global DSpace community.
  • Report regularly on the progress, challenges and results of the project, being accountable to the executive and technical management of LA Reference and the governance of LA Reference.

Essential requirements:

  • Proven experience managing multi-stakeholder projects, preferably in open science, library or technology sectors.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English; Knowledge of Portuguese will be considered an important advantage.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage diverse teams and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to solve problems and adapt to challenges collaboratively.
  • Availability to start working in January 2025.
  • University degree or higher in relevant areas (Information Sciences, Information/Computer Technologies, Project Management or other related areas).

Desirable requirements:

  • Knowledge of repository platforms, especially DSpace, and understanding of open source software development processes.
  • Experience in the preparation of technical documentation and/or development of training programs.
  • Knowledge of the open access ecosystem in Latin America and Spain, and its challenges.
  • Familiarity with DSpace governance and community structures.
  • Notions of technological infrastructure and software deployment issues.
