Argentina creates the Diamond Program: program to strengthen Argentine open access scientific publications
In line with the Open Science and Open Access policies that the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation has been carrying out since 2010, a new dimension is now being addressed: that of “diamond” Argentine open access scientific journals, those that do not charge readers for accessing the contents nor do they charge authors for publishing them.
The launch of the Diamond Program took place during the International Open Access Week, which has the motto “The community versus commercialization”, and seeks not only to support and strengthen diamond open access scientific-technological publications published in the country, but also to recognize the efforts of those who manage and edit these publications, with special emphasis on the journals of excellence that make up the Basic Nucleus of Scientific Journals managed by the Argentine Center for Scientific and Technological Information of the National Council of the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CAICYT-CONICET). The specific objective of the Program is to support their publishing and sustainability, contributing to the generation of new capabilities and the technological and professional updating of the editorial teams that manage them.
Recognizing that the national ecosystem of scientific publication is an important source of quality job creation within the framework of the cultural and scientific industry, which contributes to the construction of national identity and sovereignty through the publication of research results in our language, which consequently facilitates the approach of science to society and public policy decision-makers, which in turn amplifies its dissemination and international impact through the generation of publications with translations into other languages, which collaborates in the Argentine positioning in the international information scheme scientific and open science, which supports our sovereignty over the scientific-technological information that is generated in the country.
This program, which will operate under the permanent window modality, will support these magazines with financing of up to $25,000 per year, for 4 years.
